On the 6th march 2003 a special whisky tasting took place in Puchberg am Schneeberg. In the charming hotel Schneeberghof the best IT technicians of KPMG international held their annual meeting. They came from all over the world, especially the USA (Virginia, Washington and New York), Canada, England, Sweden, Scotland, the Netherlands and Austria.
Dr. Willi Kraml from KPMG Headquarters invited the Scotch Malt Whisky Society Austria to make a special Single Cask Whisky Tasting. For the first time in his live Thomas Neuhauser had to hold a performance like this in the English language. Everybody forgave him his few mistakes and all of them enjoyed the evening. After a slideshow about Scotland and a speech about the production of Scottish whisky and its differences the tasting started.
At first there stood an Auchentoshan on the list which tasted best for the unexperienced whisky drinker. Then followed Aultmore from Speyside, North Port from the Eastern Highlands and Teaninich from the Northern Highlands. A big surprise was Bowmore from Islay for its extremely peaty character and a 21 years old Caol Ila for its smoothness.
After the end of the official tasting we tasted some more drams in the bar until 1:00 am. Glen Garioch, Dalmore, Ardbeg and the exceptional 29 years old Glenrothes were the favourites. We thank all our new whisky friends for this wonderful evening and we hope to see you again soon.
