Vat 69

William Sanderson founded his whisky company in Leith in 1863 and he was one of the first who sold whisky in bottles. The blend itself has been launched in 1882 after a big testing row. Different person got about 100 different tasting samples and the most favoured was the sample number 69. A new blend was born and called Vat 69. The bottles looks like an old portwine bottle. Between 1914 and 1921 there were many newspaper articles because antarctic scientist Shackleton took some bottles for medicinical purposes with him. The company was taken over in 1935 by the Gin company Booth´s. In 1937 it became a part of the DCL.
