Chivas Regal

William Edward opened up a food- and wine store in Aberdeen in 1801. In 1838 James Chivas became partner and since then he states on his labels the founding date of 1801. The company is called Chivas Brothers since 1857 when James brother John joined the company. After the death of the last Chivas, namely Alexander Chivas, the company became world famous.

In the early 20th century the Chivas Regal appeared on the north american market and it was so popular that the canadian company Seagrams bought the company for GBP 85.000,-- in 1949. Seagram bought Strathisla distillery and built up Glen Keith, Braes of Glenlivet and Allt A´Bhainne distillery. They amalgamated with the Glenlivet&Glen Grant Group. The blend itself is available in different bottlings and ages. The store in Aberdeen is existing until today. Seagram sold all scottish activities in 2001 to UDV and pernod Ricard.
